Tom Mariam, president of Mariam Communications LLC, offers
clients more than two decades of professional experience in the communications
industry, both as a public relations executive and as a journalist.
Tom works closely with a diverse group of clients on a wide range of
communications issues, including strategy, media relations and training.
Mariam Communications has an impressive list of clients,
including Pennie & Edmonds LLP, Morgan Stanley, Warburg Pincus and Deutsche
Bank. Prior to founding Mariam Communications, Tom held senior positions
with a number of notable firms. As Director of Global Communications
for Clifford Chance, the world's largest law firm, he developed and
executed a worldwide communications program, including media relations,
publicity and internal publications covering the firm's 29 global offices.
He joined Clifford Chance after serving as Director of Marketing and
Communications at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, the oldest law firm
in the U.S., where he was responsible for a dramatic upturn in the firm's
image, including Cadwalader's acclaimed launch of a full-time business
casual dress code, which resulted in extensive worldwide press coverage.
As Senior Manager of Public Relations at Booz_Allen &
Hamilton, Tom organized a worldwide press relations campaign for Booz_Allen's
200 partners and its 10 practice groups as their major liaison to the
news media. The campaign resulted in a significant boost in quality
and quantity of press exposure. He also spearheaded the firm's marketing
and communications activities at the prestigious World Economic Forum
in Davos, Switzerland.
At Rubenstein Associates, Tom was quickly promoted to
Senior Vice President, handling the public relations campaigns of such
major clients as Franklin Templeton, Patricof & Co., KeyCorp and Grant's
Interest Rate Observer. He joined Rubenstein after 11 years at the American
Stock Exchange, where he led the media relations program, with a special
focus on the broadcast media. At the Amex, Tom originated the first
live television broadcasts from the trading floor of a major stock exchange.
He also produced and hosted the nationally syndicated radio show, "Amex
BusinessTalk," interviewing hundreds of CEOs, political leaders, industry
analysts and pundits.
Tom's career is rooted in journalism. He was a news writer
and editor for Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal Broadcast
Division. He also was News Director of WNBP in Newburyport, MA. He has
remained active in broadcasting, hosting several radio shows and reporting
on business and sports for an array of outlets, including AP Radio,
CBS Radio, WCBS-AM, NPR and Fox Sports.
Tom graduated from Columbia University in 1978 with a
B.A. in political science and earned a M.S. degree in broadcast journalism
from Boston University in 1980. He has been a member of the Board of
the New York Financial Writers Association since 1992. He is also a
member of the Public Relations Society of America and the Radio-TV News
Directors Association.
